thinXpool TV x UEFA EURO 2024

The Company

thinXpool TV GmbH is a TV production company, bringing to life editorial concepts, with a particular focus on broadcasting live sport events. Located in the suburbs of Munich and working with a lean team, thinXpool TV advanced to become one of Germany’s leading sport content producers and is a crucial player within Germany’s sport broadcast landscape.

For the UEFA Euro 2024 Telekom held the main TV rights for the German market. thinXpool TV - as a long standing partner of Telekom - was mandated to activate those rights for the German market via Telekom’s MagentaTV platform.

The Challenge

Producing an event like UEFA EURO 2024 is a tremendous endeavor. MagentaTV decided to take a bold approach, going beyond conventional live football broadcasting: it offered all 51 matches in three distinct content formats:

  • A traditional broadcast for the main channel
  • A tactic-focused stream for dedicated football fans
  • A social media-driven reaction show for younger audiences

Additionally, MagentaTV partnered with RTL, sublicensing select matches for simultaneous broadcasts and by producing all studio content (regardless of the outlet) in the RTL studios. This meant producing seamless, high-quality coverage across 10 stadiums by synchronizing two vastly different production environments: thinXpool, with its lean team & agile operations, and on the other side, RTL’s massive production apparatus, fueled by an overall workforce of 12 '000 employees.
The challenge: align operations and guarantee state-of-the-art production standards.

The Approach

To meet these challenges, thinXpool and Craft Clarity engaged in a partnership from the earliest project stage - mutually leveraging agile project management expertise - to prepare for the major event. Our approach focused on these key areas:

  • Workstream Alignment: We ensured constant communication between editorial and technical teams, with weekly meetings to tackle bottlenecks and prioritize tasks.

  • Leadership Support: The project management team was directly attached to thinXpool’s leadership team, so that it could streamline decision-making and track progress across all workstreams.

  • RTL Collaboration: Craft Clarity was part of the project management team that acted as the interface between MagentaTV and RTL, ensuring smooth operational alignment and knowledge sharing between the two giants.
  • Single Point of Contact: To simplify logistics and support for on-air talent and technical teams, we established a central hub, enabling quick problem resolution throughout the event.

The Result

The UEFA EURO 2024 production for MagentaTV was a resounding success, attracting over 70 million live viewers. The partnership with RTL flourished and delighting audiences across both platforms. On social media, the coverage generated an impressive 580 million impressions, amplifying the event’s reach far beyond TV screens.
And more importantly: a united team - composed of so very many different stakeholders - was forged and had fun whilst pulling in the same direction.
